Special Haiti Emergency Collection: August 28/29
All archdiocesan parishes have been called to join U.S. Catholics to take up an emergency collection for those suffering the devastating earthquake in Haiti. On August 14, a massive 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti leveling homes and businesses, leaving many without shelter or food. Hospitals and clinics are overwhelmed.  Your help is critical for our Haitian brothers and sisters desperate to survive. All gifts of support will be forwarded to the USCCB Bishops Emergency Disaster Fund that has been created to aid relief efforts like in Haiti through Catholic Relief Services. Parishes will take up a collection on August 28/29. For those who desire to give individually, click here>>.

New Icon Representing the Archdiocesan Relationship with Archdiocese of Damascus, Syria
A new Icon of the Conversion of St. Paul is now present in Chapel of Our Lady, Undoer of Knots. The Icon was commissioned to represent this patronal feast of the Archdiocese and witness to our Partnership with the Church in Damascus. It is meant to inspire prayer and meditation. The Icon is beginning a six-month pilgrimage around the Archdiocese stopping in Catholic parishes and institutions. It will remain in this chapel until after Labor Day.

Writing Contest
The 2021 Annual Writing Contest winners have been announced! This contest encouraged students in schools and parishes to dive further into their Catholicism by answering a specific question. During this year, students considered how they shared God’s love during the pandemic. Students were judged for creativity and communications effectiveness compared to peers in one of four grade levels. See the winners, Click Here>>. CRS Rice Bowl
Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl is an enriching Lenten program inviting us all to reach out beyond ourselves and encounter the needs of our brothers and sisters around the world. Discover what is available and keep in mind for next Lent. Go to www.crsricebowl.org. Questions? Contact Adam Fitzpatrick at fitzpatricka@archspm.org or 651.291.4410.

Living Water for Kitui, Kenya
Donations gathered through connecting with the children in Kitui go towards supplying water tanks at schools and village earthen dams to collect rare but clean rain water. The access to clean water is necessary for farming and livestock, thus food security.  Schools and Faith Formation programs are encouraged to adopt this program during Lent or post-Easter. If you collected funds this past Lent or post-Easter, please submit them to the Center for Mission office.  Contact Janine Ricker with questions.

COVID 19: Updated Guidance for Parish Missionary Appeals
Although many parishes have returned to weekly Masses, the Covid-19 Pandemic has continued to disrupt the normal schedule and process for parishes to host the annual missionary speaker in 2021 as part of the Missionary Cooperation Plan.  The following updated guidance is provided to assist parishes as they consider how and when they will host a missionary in 2021.

  • The normal timeframe for a parish hosting a missionary has been relaxed. A mission appeal may now take place on any weekend in 2021 that is agreeable to the parish and the mission group.
  • Some mission appeals may need to be postponed or canceled because of travel restrictions for the missionary or changing circumstances at the parish.
  • The format for conducting the appeals can be flexible to meet the situation of each parish. Appeal presentations can be given in person as usual or they may be given as video-type recordings for streaming services or other formats that serve the purpose.
  • Mission groups and parishes should communicate with each other to address any changes that arise or need to be made.
